Europe's Canuck Connections [Europe's Canuck Connections]
"London Crawling" (Pt.2)- by Travellin' Tony T

London Proper boasts thousands of licensed liquor establishments. There are plenty of books, magazines and internet sites devoted to the subject, so I'll try
and concentrate on the ones I recall the most. Although my friends and I
explored a good percentage of these Pubs, Clubs and restaurants, our
"neighbourhood" haunts were far more convenient !

Panos' Front Door Our Fun Run involved the trendy "Pitcher & Piano Pub", a mere four blocks from home base on King St. in Hammersmith, W6, and the funky Greek Taverna "Panos" just down the street. As a starting point, the Pitcher & Piano is not your average British pub. The clientele is relatively upscale and so is the atmosphere. There's a baby grand in the center which serves as a handy drink drop off point, but don't try tickling the ivories, which almost spelled a hasty exit for myself. Seems the piano is there for show, but not tell. There's a wide selection of spirits, bottled and on tap, and the menu is tasty and moderately inexpensive by London standards. Last call is usually decision time, a trip further downtown, or down the street to "Panos" Taverna.

Panos says Hi! Two blocks west and follow the music, Panos' congenial proprietor and name-sake will greet you with his patented grin and offer up a scrumptious olive & peppers plate. Suck on a giganto beer from Panos' home island of Cypress, gobble down an Ouzo or three, and wait for the plates to hit the floor. You never know what's gonna go down here and that's the fun of it. Three ex-patriot Nova Scotian buddies of mine shared a flat down the road for a couple of years and let me bunk with them for awhile. We dropped some major quid in this happenin' room. Say hi to Panos for me ! (gee I hope we paid our tab ??!)  Next, a virtual trip to the Motherland!
