Your plane will land, or your boat will dock, in Mallorca's capitol, Palma. A
prime stop on the Club Med. super rich tour, Palma's nightlife is world
renown (so are the prices). The local marina once played host to
both King Juan's giant yacht with the helicopter strapped on deck,
and Elton John's water toy with TWO helicopters topside ! If you
want to see how the other half parties (unless you're already
in that half) climb in to your Armani and slither
in to the capital city's nightside !
Most clubs don't open 'til midnight, and close "whenever". Drinking will put a big dent in the pocket, but the sheer electricity running through this place makes the moment rather mystical. After dropping $45. for a "cheap" hotel room (and several times that dancing the night away), I decided a move to a less economically stressful locale was in order.
Out came the "Let's Go" guide the following morning. A brief glance through it before my trip contained some reference to a "7 mile long beach" just outside Palma. Sounded like my style, so I was off to the conveniently located tourist office in the center of the city. Then bus # 15 wisked me away (well actually crawled) to Paradise, Playa de Palma ! Ten kilometers of beaches, bars and bare bodies make this stretch of sand one of the wildest party spots in the world. At the far end of the beach, in the community of El Arenal lay the links to Canada that made me feel so at home. Unlike The Maple Leaf Pub in London,Return to Europe's Canuck Connections Contents
