[Europe's Canuck Connections] [Europe's Canuck Connections]
"No Spain, No Gain" (Pt.4)- by Travellin' Tony T

These two Twenty-somethings had been doing the dream for several years now. Spending a few months at home in Vancouver and the rest traveling Europe
and working the summers among the craziness that is Mallorca. We
became fast friends and soon I began the transformation from
"Tourista" to honourary local.

Jay & Mad Dog We secured jobs at a great little dive on the beach called "The Dog House", and it lived up to its name. Dark, downstairs and full of revellers dancing between pool games. Draft and tequila at a buck a piece made this a favorite among the thousands of young European vacationers who descend upon the island for two week all-inclusive free for alls. This is a land where the bartenders are encouraged to drink with the patrons and tequila slamming prowess is Godlike. I'm likin' it !!

The managers, Jay and MadDog (don't call him Dave), are two of the wildest party animals I've ever had the pleasure of "going out on the piss" with. These Manchester boys were also Mallorca veterans. Running the Dog House by night and sleeping the days away on a stretch of sand somewhere within stumbling distance. The two months I spent working as Bartender, slash DJ, slash card trickster at the Dog House, is a time I'll never forget. Especially since I'd only planned to stay for two weeks ! Jay and Mad Dog aren't running this place any more, but I'm sure you'll still find them partying behind a bar or under a table somewhere near the beach.

The Beachcomber Crew The Beachcomber (1 block up from the beach on "Tokio") is still going strong. My first contact, Lee, along with his wife Sue, her sister Val and Sue's husband Mick, run this spot throughout the year. Jan and Justin, along with assorted other Canuck buds, give them a hand with this place and other enterprises. There's always a warm seat for someone from the homeland. "The Beachcombers" have been surrogate family to many a weary traveler, including yours truly. There's not enough space here to recount our Summer exploits, but suffice it to say a good time was had by all, and could certainly be had again in this hot and happenin' piece of Europe's Canuck Connections.
See you on the Med !

Next we venture further East to Greece and the Island of Crete for the fourth and final chapter of Europe's Canuck Connections - "It's All Greek to Me!"
