Three Courses Join Together

If the story of Anne of Green Gables had been written for the nineties, it would somehow have to incorporate golf. Perhaps the boy who pursued her always carried his golf clubs in the trunk of his car and was a scratch golfer. Or perhaps Anne herself with her romantic imagination would take up the game, why not when many of the local golf courses possess softly undulating green fairways that flow together against the contrast of strategically placed white sand filled bunkers. It takes a vivid imagination to move a little white golf ball effectively around an environment like that, I think Anne would have been a great golfer.

Funny thing is, there actually is a story of a local girl from PEI who grew up close to a golf course and became deeply attached to the game. And as of July she has earned over $385,000 US for the year on the ladies professional golf tour. Her name is Lori Kane, and her international success has played a huge part in fashioning PEI’s reputation as a golf destination.

Brudenell River Golf Course
Ironically, Lori’s dad Jack who was instrumental in helping her develop her golf skills, has been instrumental in developing PEI’s government run golf courses which include - The Links at Crowbush Cove, Mill River Golf Course and Brudenell River Golf Course. Jack Kane is head of Golf Links PEI, the consortium of government run golf courses that have been strategically branded together to represent ‘the islands finest’ golf courses. The marketing initiative has been spearheaded by the provincial government who have wisely foreseen the increasing global demand for golf and committed to make PEI a world class golfing destination.

The golf facility at Mill River includes a recently renovated par 72, 18 hole golf course, extensive practice areas for both driving and putting, and a full service resort. It is located in the western region of the island about a one hour drive from the Confederation Bridge.

The resort in Brudenell River Provincial Park, located in the south eastern region of the island, has been the center of attention for golfers of late, not only because of its internationally recognized 4 star golf course, but now because of its two championship golf courses. In a world record time of just 117 days, construction was completed on what appears to be a gem of a course named Dundarave. Originally scheduled to open July 1st, 1999, the unseasonably dry conditions have led to postponement. However Brudenell and Dundarave now combine to be the only 36 hole golf facility in Atlantic Canada. Not a bad little product to market to golfers at all.
