Interspersed
in this amazing botanical display, we pass through isolated
villages, majestic lakes, gently flowing streams, hills,
valleys and countless indescribable scenes. The whole
experience had me running from window to dome car to
various viewing points in order to capture the photos
for this article. According to one of my newfound British
friends, I behaved like a "whirling dervish". I'm not
quite sure what this means, could be something quite
unflattering, but I like the sound of it, so the metaphor
stands.
Winding
our way through this wondrous landscape it suddenly
dawns on me that I'm home. I mean that I've been traveling
this route for 25 years. The normal vistas had become
passé. Seen it, done it, wearing the free T-shirt. But
what the railway does is reveal a hidden trail through
some of Nova Scotia's most undiscovered country. It's
hard to fathom that a journey I had virtually taken
for granted has been revealed to me in a whole new stunning
way. And that's what this trip is all about, a slice
of this land that really is for the chosen few. May
I suggest you make the choice.

Foliage at its Peak

Like
icing on a double chocolate cake, this journey is topped
off with fantastic service, wonderfully friendly staff,
live traditional Nova Scotia entertainment and a true
sense of adventure!
Along
the way is a comfortable 90 minute stop in the town of
Port Hawkesbury, just on the other side of the Canso Causeway
linking Cape Breton to mainland Nova Scotia. Here you'll
get a chance to take a stroll off the train, have a tasty
dessert and visit the gift shop. Then it's "All aboard
!" for the continuation of this fun filled journey.
